It goes without saying that we heart Hitchcock. Heck, we even studied him at university (The Birds and Marnie, since you ask).
So, a unique celebration of the E11-born Master of Suspense is right up our (dark) alley. As part of the Leytonstone Festival (1st – 19th July), young local entrepreneur Dee Wood is bringing ‘Hitchcock Home’ in a special themed event over three evenings in July. And spookily enough, the setting is the cemetery at St John’s, Leytonstone. Yikes.
The evenings revolve around a pop-up cinema, which will screen three of his most iconic films: The Lady Vanishes, The Man Who Knew Too Much and Dial M For Murder.
There’ll be a short film before, and an immersive element, with famous Hitch heroes and villains parading about. The organisers are even challenging punters to go dressed as a favourite Hitchcock character. So be warned: a bunch of ‘Psychos’ could well be running wild.
LOCAL ADVERTISING
Before the movie starts each night, you can roam the church courtyard, which is hosting a hand-picked selection of food and drink stalls, all local and sustainable where possible, of course.
Expect everything from duck burgers and avocado salad and fresh, oven baked pizza from Peel & Chimney (16th & 17th only) to wine and cocktails from Burgess and Hall, and beer and cider from The Wanstead Tap. Plus, for sugar junkies, fresh popcorn and pick ‘n’ mix from The Sweet Tooth Stall.
Oh, and it goes without saying that you’ll need to bring your own chairs and blankets as there’s no seating. It’s a cemetery, silly.

Glad I read this article – I didn’t know we had to bring our own chairs! Bring on Friday – I can’t wait for this!
A bit pricey for that if you ask me. Will be hardly anyone there.
