If your need for a weekend street food fix frequently sees you leaving Leytonstone for Broadway or Chatsworth Road markets and beyond, the good news is that now you can put your Oyster card away.
Every second Saturday of the month, the Churchyard Street Food Market is bringing the tastiest vendors to E11, or St John’s Church churchyard to be precise.
Leytonstone-based street food trader Taco Dave, aka Dave Sabbarton, who we intro’d you to back in November, is the man behind the market. “I wanted to gather together high quality local traders who, like me, want to bring something cool, interesting and exciting to Leytonstone,” he explains.
So far a good few traders, including Dave, are confirmed for (and Dave is hoping to sign up at least one more ahead of Saturday). We Serve Humans, who you might already know from their residencies at the Northcote, Signature Brew and Tina We Salute You, will be dishing up all manner of meaty delights.

Keeping non-meat eaters happy Stratford-based Chatsworth Road Market regulars Hoxton Beach will be serving up yummy falafels, and east London chipsters Chips With Dips, er, chips and dips. Expect weird and wonderful flavours to go alongside what Dave reckons are “some of the best chips I’ve ever tasted.” (Past dips have included apricot curry, bacon and fig mayo, peanut butter mayo and wasabi mayo.) Meanwhile Zara’s Treats will be selling Caribbean food, such as slow cooked beef and vegan-friendly patties, all cooked in her kitchen just off the High Road in Leytonstone: you can’t get more local than that.
The man himself will be unveiling his modern take on Mexican street food with a menu that will feature hangover-busting brunch tacos and huevos rancheros, plus set-you-up-for-Saturday-night-out conchinita pibil, a slow-roasted pork dish, and eight-hour slow-cooked Dr Pepper Brisket.
While he’s starting small, Dave had big plans for the market. “The aim is to grow month-on-month, so that by the time summer arrives, we’ll have a good number of stalls selling a diverse range of street food. I hope to fill the whole churchyard with traders and local musicians. I really want a regular community event where local people can come down, eat lovely food, chill out, listen to some great music, meet their friends and have a good time.”
The fryers, grills and hot plates will be fired up and ready to go from 10am until 4pm. As Dave says, “It’s just down to the good people of Leytonstone to come down and support us so that we can grow and achieve our dream.”
You heard the man.
