Is the fast paced London life taking its toll? Time to escape to the wilderness and reconnect with good-old Mother Nature? If the answer’s yes, then Westfield is apparently the place for you.

From this weekend, sizeable segments of the Stratford centre will be cleared to make way for a free-to-visit indoor forest. This is part of an attempt to shine light on the future of our natural environments and their potential role in urban landscapes.

An indoor forest, for those who are wondering, consists of a zorbing lagoon, a fruit cloud (a walk in fruit flavoured mist) and mini exhibitions and installations showcasing plants that create electricity, examining the magic of spider silk and offering opportunities to discover the -infamously tricky – secret language of trees. There will also be a series of artefacts, artworks and anecdotes about forests and nature on display.

Everything in these shrubbed-up corners of Westfield has been designed to inspire guests, youngsters in particular, to consider the natural environment. Bompas & Parr, the team behind the event, are hoping that city-dwellers will leave the vast shopping centre with a ‘deeper understanding of the relevance of the natural world.’
