V&A East Storehouse opens at Here East in May 2025

Most exciting of all, it’s the new home of the David Bowie Centre

So this is great news for the wider area. The first half of East London’s new V&A, the V&A East Storehouse, will open on May 31st 2025, as part of East Bank, the new cultural quarter in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

And better still, it’s at Here East – just a 30-minute walk or shorter cycle away from many parts of Leyton and Leytonstone.

The stats on the press release are staggering: half a million works spanning every creative discipline, from the Glastonbury Festival Archive to PJ Harvey and Elton John’s costumes, vintage football shirts, Dior and Schiaparelli haute couture, Roman frescos and Mid-Century furniture.

There’ll be a hundred curated mini displays, and a world-first Order An Object experience – where anyone can book to see any object they like, seven-days a week. And perhaps most exciting of all, it’s the new home of the David Bowie Centre, opening later, on 13 September 2025. This is depicted in the featured image, above.

They also promise new works and commissions with young east Londoners from Waltham Forest, Hackney and Newham. There’s no denying that this is a positive new cultural development for Leyton, Leytonstone, Stratford and this whole swathe of East London.
