With Sri Lankan kitchen Kamu having moved to Crouch Hill, the Coach & Horses, Leyton High Road’s 1863-built corner landmark, is now home to a new culinary incumbent, Eat Momo.
But what’s their story? Well, in 2024, sisters Trishna and Dipa Chamling opened their original restaurant in Borough Yards, the new railway arch development adjacent to the market itself.
As Trishna explains in greater detail in our Substack, their enterprise is “inspired by their love for home cooking, the warm, comforting flavours of Nepal, and their passion to bring that tradition and ritual to London.”

After eating there last weekend, I can vouch for their steamed, kothey (pan-fried) and deep-fried dumplings, as well as an especially good Nepali chow mein and chickpea curry with roti.
“Momo is literally a labour of love,” says Trishna. “Every morsel is delicately handmade, bringing together various processes into one.”
Fired up by a renewed love for dumplings, in the latest newsletter I also explore Nepali haunts on an East London trail that takes me from Stratford to Upton Park and back to Leyton via Forest Gate.
It proved a fascinating journey: read all about it here.
Eat Momo is open daily at the Coach & Horses from midday, 391 High Rd. Leyton E10 5NA. Food served from Wednesday lunchtimes and every evening from 5pm.
