MUSIC: Celebrate Record Store Day
What better way to mark this annual event than hanging out at All You Read is Love listening to intelligent choons from The President Lincoln? Their atmospheric debut album, The Sinking of The President Lincoln, was released in 2013 on Nine Mile Records, and had Steve Lamacq raving about them on BBC 6Music. Unfamiliar with them? Expect classic alt-singer-songwriter vibes with Americana and glam rock touches. They play a rare semi-acoustic set at favourite hangout, All You Read is Love, on Saturday 18 April. It kicks off at 7.30, with Sunday Runner in support.Free. 877 High Road Leytonstone E11
FAMILY: Soak up the magic of storytelling
Dif you know Harrow Green Community Library is run totally by volunteers? Now in its second year, it’s based in the Epicentre in West Street, thanks to the support of the local housing association, the CBHA. If you’ve got kids, take the lively ankle-biters along to the Family Story Time this Saturday 18 April. It showcases local storytellers, including fabulous writer, teacher and poet Jane Grell, and also aims to help children gain confidence reading aloud. From 2-4pm. Free. The Epicentre, 41 West Street E11
ART: See a one-man show at Wild Goose
As well as scoffing muffins, cakes and drowning yourself in specialist coffee at Wild Goose, don’t forget this weekend to have a butcher’s at a new show by Mark Halliley. It’s mainly close-ups – which always make you look twice – and the photos were snapped in various places, from the Greek islands to the streets and allotments of Leyton and Leytonstone. Like this little gem (right): pretty atmospheric, huh? 654 High Red Leytonstone E11
