Heathcote & Star launch new kitchen residency and festive menus

Book your seasonal celebrations with friends or family in one of five areas across E11's landmark corner boozer

Have you organised your Christmas celebrations yet? No, neither have we. But it really is now that part of the year where shock at premature street illuminations swiftly gives way to the panic of booking a party with mates, colleagues or family.

You could always make a beeline for one of the biggest pubs in the area. Always a winner for serving up a seasonal experience, whether it’s in the vast heated garden or cosy indoor nooks, this year the Heathcote’s new range of festive packages is guaranteed to give everyone a merry little you-know-what.

And better still, their special Christmas menu boasts delicious plates from their brand new kitchen residency, Root, Hoof & Claw (launching Mon 15th Nov).

Part of the same family as the hugely popular Krapow, this new offer takes classic pub dishes and gives them a twist, perfect for the colder winter nights. As well as fish and chips, sausage & mash and a signature Heathcote burger, expect the likes of braised ox cheek with buttered leeks, homemade fish pie and a delicate onion tarte tatin.

On the festive set menu itself, pick from two or three courses (£25 or £30 respectively). Starters include smoked salmon with crème fraiche and gremolata, a choice of terrines, roasted pumpkin soup with pumpkin seeds or – and this 100% has our name on it – Merlot poached pears with Cropwell Bishop salad.

As for mains? Well, there’s a vegan nut roast with a rich mushroom sauce and tenderstem broccoli; rare Scottish ribeye with beef dripping potatoes, confit beef fat carrots and pan-fried sprouts with onions and lardons; or, of course, turkey crown with pigs in blankets, homemade sausage meat stuffing and all the works. Mouth watering yet?

If you’re still standing, desserts include vegan frangipane with vanilla ice cream, mince pies with brandy butter, and bread & butter pudding with vanilla custard. And that’s not all: add a bit of sparkle to the meal with a glass of prosecco for a fiver.
