Hot on the heels of the news that Francis Road is soon to get its very first bookshop Phlox, comes word that Yardarm, purveyors of excellent wine, beer, charcuterie, cheese and bread (read our review here) are opening a restaurant next door.
Keeping it in the family, owner Dan O’Connor’s younger brother Joe will be on chef duties. A recent Instagram post showing Joe doing his cheffy thing at wastED London – Selfridges food waste pop-up restaurant – gives a possible clue to the theme of the restaurant: we’re thinking local, sustainable and possibly zero-waste dining. More details as we hear them (they’re not giving much away at the mo, sorry folks).
In other news, men of the potentially bearded variety might enjoy a new addition to High Road Leyton. Hip no-appointment-necessary barbershop Rocket – who already boast branches in Peckham, Hackney, Stoke Newington and Walthamstow – opened the doors to their Leyton branch last Saturday.
With a tagline of “You grow it, we mow it” – what else? – cuts cost from £12, beard trims from £8, with discounts for students and kiddies through the week.

Hair and beard will now be on point (for male readers at least). Now, about that Yardarm.
