Enchanted Garden: a guide to Francis Road’s new healing room

Owner Ann Broad talks us through her healing treatments, reiki, guided meditations and more

Just before Covid struck, a tranquil and rather relaxing store took over the former Edie Rose florist, which had just moved into a larger unit next door.

Enchanted Garden is the life dream of Leyton local Ann Broad, a qualified complementary therapist for over 25 years who originally specialised in aromatherapy and reflexology, but became increasingly drawn to energy healing therapies.

“Once I’d had my first crystal healing that was it,” she says, as we stand in her new healing room at the back of the shop, where candles hang from the ceiling and singing bowls line the shelves. “Before that I was very sceptical. But I had my first treatment and, as the crystal was being held above my heart chakra, I could feel that something wasn’t right. And I just burst into tears.”

It was one of those unexpected life-changing moments. “It was really weird. I didn’t even know it was there, that I’d built up sort of negative grief in that area. So obviously that was completely out of alignment. After that I just felt so much better in myself, so much lighter, so much happier. And I thought, wow, this really works.”

Before we outline what treatments are on offer in the new healing room, first let’s take a wander. Her shop is a true Aladdin’s Cave of incense burners, smudge sticks – “for clearing negativity”, she says – essential oils, bath bombs, natural and organic soaps, face masks, shower gels, an eco laundry range, wind chimes and soap flowers. Even Tarot cards and Crystal Balls, too, for those so inclined.

And, of course, there are all manner of healing crystals, from tumbled stones to bracelets, with clear guidance on the properties of each. “Amethyst is very good for stress, for example, as well as peaceful sleep, as is Rose Quartz, probably the most popular stone,” says Ann. “Raw selenite is all about mental calm and well-being, a protective stone that will help to clear and keep negative energies away. Clear Quartz is ‘the stone of power’, amplifying energy, the master healer.”

Healing Treatments: a guide

There are six main treatments in Enchanted Garden’s new Healing Room. “You may experience some physical sensations such as tingling or heat whilst the energies work with or through you,” says Ann. “This is perfectly normal. After the healing you should be left feeling lighter and brighter with a sense of calm and wellbeing.”

1. Crystal Healing: Relaxation sessions with chakra balancing and aura cleansing
“This is fantastic for relaxation and helping with problems with sleeping, stress and anxiety,” she says. Chakra Balancing is a form of energy healing that focuses on channelling energy into the seven chakras (the word means wheel in Sanskrit). Chakra are spinning wheels of energy that regulate the flow of energy throughout our entire bodies. When we talk about treating chakras we are referring to treating your energetic body.

“When a chakra becomes ‘blocked’ by being what we refer to as underactive or overactive (too open) our being as a whole doesn’t balance, which can potentially lead to illness and/or emotional blocks,” Ann says. This can be caused by our environment, people we are connected to, our emotions, trauma and other things that impact on our lives. “We can end up feeling stuck, lost or disconnected and there are the opposite extremes too such as intense, needy or obsessed. These are all examples of how an imbalance in a chakra can manifest.”

Chakra balancing is the process of removing and clearing negative energy blockages from the seven main chakras and restoring positive energy so the chakras flow at a healthy rate leaving the body relaxed and restored. Price: 60-minute session: £40

2. Reiki Seichem Healing

“Reiki is an ancient Japanese healing practice,” says Ann. “Reiki is pronounced Ray-Key and means ‘universal energy, or ‘life force’. Seichem, pronounced Say-keem, transmits the elemental energies of Water, Fire, Air and Angelic Light of Spirit.”

Reiki is powerful but, when used together with Seichem, will transform the energy to make it even more intense for a deeper transformation and healing potential. It’s beneficial for anxiety and stress relief, pain relief, deep relaxation. It improves intuition, creativity, memory and learning, promotes harmony and balance, clears energy blockages and promotes natural balance between mind, body, and spirit. 45-minute session: £45.

3. Crystal Healing
A full in-depth consultation takes place lasting 30 minutes prior to this practice, a holistic and natural therapy to tap into the energetic power of crystals and how they affect the body and mind. “I then select healing crystals which are placed on or around a client to help unblock, focus and direct energy,” she says.

The belief behind crystal therapy is that individual stones have the ability to communicate with the energy flow of the human body and help to realign the energy channels that are interrupting the natural flow of the body and help it heal itself. Specific crystals are said to help to relieve ailments such as anxiety, depression and insomnia, or more physical ailments such as digestive problems. They have the ability to absorb and remove negative energy and also to recharge the body with positive energy. After a treatment people tend to feel relaxed and restored. First treatment: 90 minutes £60, thereafter £50.

4. Guided Meditation
“Meditation and mindfulness induce a heightened state of awareness and focused attention,” she says. Various studies demonstrate the practice can help relieve stress — as well as manage anxiety, reduce inflammation, and improve memory and attention while gaining a new perspective on stressful situations. “It reduces negative emotions, increases imagination and creativity, as well as patience and tolerance.” £30-minute session £30

5. Holistic Crystal Facial Therapy Treatment
“This is a wonderfully relaxing and rejuvenating treatment for your face using crystals and crystal infused holistic skin care products,” says Ann. “A Consultation is carried out prior to your treatment along with a skin analysis to rule out any contraindications and to discover your skin type, so that the crystals and skin care products most beneficial to you and your skin can be selected.”

Your Holistic Crystal Facial Therapy Treatment will start with a deep cleansing of the skin followed by a gentle exfoliation. Selected crystals will then be placed on certain points around the face and their energies will be helped to vibrate in to your skin and tissue with the application of sound therapy. Not only is this treatment great for all skin types and those who may be experiencing skin problems and issues but also a fantastic pamper session. 60-minutes: £55.

6. Angelic Healing
“Invoking Angel energy to heal is extremely powerful because, when called upon, the Angels will pour unconditional love and light into each person or situation,” says Ann. “This can release fear, pain and trauma, and bring peace, trust and healing. I begin by discussing your history and any problems you may be having at this time. You will lie down, removing only your shoes, and l ensure you are warm and comfortable.” 45-minute session, £45.
