Roadtest e-bikes at Cycling Electric Demo Day in Lee Valley VeloPark

We're offering readers discount £5 tickets to roadtest all the latest models in the Olympic Park

One of the best things about this area is how close Leyton and Leytonstone are geographically to the wide open spaces of the Olympic Park. And if you’re a regular there, you’ll know that one of the nearest points is the Lee Valley VeloPark, an iconic velodrome surrounded by road circuits and mountain bike trails – and even a BMX track.

It’s right here that later this month popular electric bike mag Cycling Electric are holding their first-ever e-bike demo day, taking place on the outside cycle circuit (pictured below) on Sunday April 28th.

The event gives locals and Londoners alike the opportunity to test and compare electric bikes from leading bike brands on the purpose built one-mile cycling circuit, 100% free from traffic.

Whether you’re in the market for an e-bike or simply want to find out what it’s like to ride one, the Demo Day provides the opportunity to test-ride electric bikes from a variety of bike manufacturers catering to different bike styles, including commuter, folding (pictured below), road and cargo bikes that can carry your children, shopping and replace your need for a car.

Among the 20+ brands confirmed to have fleets available to test at the event are Tern (pictured below), Riese & Muller (main image, above) and Benno who will have their marketing leading and very cool looking electric cargo bikes on hand to test. Some of these bikes will be set up with child carrying accessories (see below).
Also present will be Brit e-bike designers Estarli (pictured below), whose bikes have consistently performed well in reviews, and affordable e-bike options from EBCO, Ribble, Ridgeback and Tenways, as well as premium and highly customisable bikes from Velo de Ville.

Each brand will have ambassadors onsite to provide guidance on their models and answer any questions that you may have.

And if you’ve never stepped foot inside the Velodrome itself there’s even a cafe where you can watch any indoor track cycling action on the day.

Finally, a personal anecdote: if you’re a cyclist who’s never had the urge to try electric, we admit we were also skeptical until a couple of years ago, when we hired a pair of electric bikes in the Lake District.

It actually proved to be a highlight of the trip, ascending with ease the kind of steep hills we never dreamt were possible on two wheels (you can read all about that adventure on our sister site Weekendr here).

So cycling fanatics (and anyone else): it really is well worth giving this one a spin.
