3 hot new openings: Fillybrook, Zaxx & Mexicorner

This weekend sees a trio of epicurean delights in Leyton and Leytonstone open their doors

Fillybrook

We’ve eagerly watched this rebooted Army Cadets hut take shape on an almost daily basis, such is our regular trajectory up and down Grove Green Road. Now that the sign – by popular local artist Mia Warner – is up (inside, at least) last Sunday the team flung their doors wide for a well-attended soft opening. And you won’t be disappointed by the stylish interior that’s set to be a modish mix of bar, cafe, restaurant and workspace. There’ll even be a garden, should this arctic weather ever relent. Today (Thursday) they launch properly. 392 Grove Green Road E11, open Thurs/Fri 5-11pm, Sat 12-12pm, Sun 12-10pm, follow @fillybrook

Zaxx

‘Feed your Seoul’ is the latest Francis Road diner’s tagline – which pretty much sums up its colourful streetfood vibes. Expect lots of eye-catching purple – both outside and in – plus nourishing rice bowls, Korean Fried Chicken and ‘East-Asian’ ice cream. And it’s right next to Phlox so you can even grab a drink there first (or after). Opens Friday 28th Feb, 161 Francis Road E10, follow @zaxx.food

Mexicorner

Where delightful Francophile cafe and Bushwood hotspot Petit Corner once stood is now this new Mexican themed cafe with shisha garden. On the menu is everything from piled-high nachos with guac to vegan bean burgers, enchilada, burritos and fajitos. Us? We’ve got our eye on the tacos (a snip at £2 each) – but will the baja fish in chipotle batter live up to an exemplary one over in Hackney? Hope so. Mexicorner opens Mon 2nd March, 734 High Road Leytonstone E11, follow @mexicornere11
